Following the enormous success of our new girls varsity flag football program, we are extremely excited to announce that we will be expanding it to include a modified team for Gr. 7 & Gr. 8 students in the spring of 2026. We are confident that this will build on last year’s extraordinary momentum and establish a foundation of success for years to come.

Flag Football was first sanctioned as an official sport by the NYS Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) in 2023. Our Athletics Department led by Director Lindsay Bergman worked hard to establish a flag football team here in Ken-Ton. The team is led by head coach Dan Hannon, assistant coaches Dave Idzik and Cory Martin, and volunteer assistant coach Skip Ciffa. The inaugural Kenmore Girls Flag Football Team had an incredible season last spring that included a 13-game winning streak which brought them all the way to the Division I Class A Championship. The girls routinely dominated their opponents, usually by double digits.

Last year, because of the popularity of the sport, Section VI introduced a modified program with 10 teams competing. This year, there are expected to be approximately 20 teams across the section including Ken-Ton’s. We expect there to be a great deal of interest. The program ran a summer clinic in which approximately 40 Gr. 5-8 students participated as well as voluntary summer workouts open to all Gr. 7-12 students. Participants showed significant interest in a modified program. Last month, 16 players took part in a scrimmage with Orchard Park, Buffalo, and Sweet Home. It was the first time they were able to compete against other schools, which was an extremely valuable experience.

We look forward to what is sure to be an exciting season for both the varsity and modified teams!
